Construction of the Pharmaceutical Institute - Westfalian Wilhelms-University Muenster
Particularities in structure and procedure:
The ground sketch of the Building resembles a comb: Three long structures with a north-south orientation form the teeth of the comb. The laboratory and internship rooms of the pharmaceutical institute are mainly housed in the western and central building. The use of the eastern structure will be determined later. In the south, an office, seminar and lecture hall section running in east-west direction connects the ""comb teeth"". On the north side, a bridge with additional office spaces connects the three ""comb teeth"" at the level of the first and second floors. Externally, the building will blend harmoniously into the neighboring buildings: closed metal and transparent glass elements alternate in the facade. All laboratory areas are designed for the protection class S2.
Special structural challenges:
The particular structural challenges of this building were the large spans, the foundation and the joint planning. The foundation is a non-tensioned reinforced floor slab with 1,800 piles.
