Who we are
We are an owner-managed family business that works successfully in the second generation for over 50 years. As head of the firm, Gerd Grotemeier's teamwork is close and collegial. The passionate athlete has lead the team for over 20 years. His door is always open. He likes working with his team and is always engaged to find the optimal solution to each problem.
We are a team of 15 civil engineers, architects and draftsmen. ""Newcomers"" directly from the university as well as experienced ""old stagers"" are part of the Grotemeier team. A good mix of experience and vitality for your success.
Women's expertise has entered the classic ""men's world"" of construction industry in our office long ago. Our pleasant an collegial working environment is enriched by 30 percent female collegues.
We also offer trainees from school and university insights into our company. We offer students the opportunity to write their bachelor or master thesis with us. Thereby new scientific findings can be incorporated into our work.

When everything started
Everything started over 50 years ago. At the beginning there was the idea and passion for stuctural engineering.
1965 Company Founding
Founding Father, Dipl.-Ing. Karl Grotemeier, first completed training in carpentry in the workshop belonging to his parents in Porta Westfalica. Following his qualification, he furthered his education with studies at the School of Engineering in Hagen. After graduation with the degree of Diplom Engineer (Dipl.-Ing.) and first occupational experience in Wuppertal, he founded his own firm in the 1960s in Bielefeld, the home city of his wife. Together with his wife Uschi, who was responsible for finance, he founded Grotemeier Engineers. Until December 31, 2012, he led the company together with his son Dipl.Ing. Gerd Grotemeier.
1997 The junior chef joins the engineering office
The junior chef learned his profession from scratch, just like his father. Early in his life his preferred profession was clear to him. After an apprenticeship as carpenter in Bielefeld and his completion of studies with a degree in Construction Engineering awarded from the RWTH Aachen (Dipl.-Ing.), he worked for Bilfinger & Berger in Mannheim and Brussels. In 1997 he returned to Bielefeld and started working in the office of his father. On January 1, 1998 Grotemeier Engineers GbR was founded.
2000 Completion of the office building due to Expansion
The firm continues growing, employing new engineers and upgrading its possibilities. In order to uphold rising standards, office capacities must be enlarged and a new building addition becomes reality for the existing enterprise in Bielefeld.
2008 Lead planning and project design becomes a new branch for Grotemeier Engineers
Grotemeier Engineers are constantly facing new challenges in the construction industry. In addition to structural design for major projects such as laboratory buildings, administrative buildings or sewage treatment facilities, the company is increasingly taking orders for general planning in construction projects.
2010 further international orientation of the company
Grotemeier Engineers serves clients and customers nationally and internationally. Within Germany interesting and challenging projects are implemented by Grotemeier Engineers as well as worldwide.
2013 sole management by Gerd Grotemeier
The Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Gerd Grotemeier manages the firm alone from now on. Due to his increasing age, Dipl.-Ing. Karl Grotemeier retires from active work and management on December 31st, 2012.
2014/15 Grotemeier Engineers in Asia
New challanges arise on the Chinese market for the German engineering office. Especially the expertise of German engineers in planning Passivehouses is extremely interesting for Chinese clients. In 2015 a first contract for cooperation with a Chinese firm was signed.
2015 Grotemeier Engineers celebrate 50 years company anniversary
In June 2015 the family company celebrates 50 years Grotemeier Engineers. Today the company is lead by Dipl.-Ing. Gerd Grotemeier. In 1965 the engineering office was founded and built by his father Dipl.-Ing. Karl Grotemeier. The anniversary was a welcome occasion for a big celebration with all customers and business partners. Grotemeier Engineers expresses its thanks for the trust and confidence of many customers and business partners and is looking forward to further cooperation.
2017/18 BIM is on the rise at Grotemeier Engineers
We rely on Building Information Modeling (BIM), the planning method in which all relevant parts of the building are captured digitally. All project-related information is always synchronized and available to all project participants during the planning process.
2018/2019 Grotemeier Engineers faces new challenges
The next 2-3 years Grotemeier Engineers will focus on the interaction of 3-D statical calculations with the planning and working method BIM. The office faces new challenges in order to be successful in the future. Our Engineers work with BIM-compatible software and optimize the working and planning process, especially for complex projects.
2022/2023 Ingenieurbüro setzt sich für Nachwuchs ein
Die Fachingenieure bei Grotemeier Ingenieure setzen sich verstärkt für die Aus- und Weiterbildung von Schülern, Studenten und Jungingenieuren ein. Neben einem Praktikum sowie Werkstudentenstätigkeit bietet das Büro jetzt auch einem dualen Studenten die Möglichkeit praktische Erfahrungen zu sammeln.
Our social efforts
We have been supporting clubs and initiatives in sports, culture and social issues for many years. We pay special attention to the promotion of children and young people in our region.
Grotemeier Ingenieure und der Sport Grotemeier Engineers and sports
The managing director is a passionate sportsman, especially in athletics. The Grotemeier Engineers Team took part in several company runs throughout the region during the last years.
A special interest of Grotemeier Engineers is to support regional children and teenagers by sponsoring their activities. For example we supported the necessary renovation and enlargement of the local track stadium, we sponsored sports clothing for local youth handball teams and financed sports equipment for local Grammar schools. In addition we supported local Grammar schools in acquiring books and material for the bicycle traffic licence.
Grotemeier Ingenieure und die Kultur
Child and youth cultural projects are also supported by Grotemeier Engineers. Theatre workshops for the promotion of speach and language facility as well as assistance for underpriviledged pupils also belongs to Grotemeier's cultural support.
